Therapy Intensives
EMDR intensives offer a focused and supportive space for people who want to work through difficult life experiences at a deeper pace than weekly therapy allows. These extended sessions are grounded in the same principles as standard EMDR therapy—using bilateral stimulation and the body’s natural capacity to process trauma—but they give us more time to stay with what’s emerging, without needing to pause or rush.
Clients often come to intensives when they feel ready to face something specific: a trauma that hasn’t settled, a recent event that’s disrupted life, or a long-standing pattern that’s hard to shift. The extended format allows for deeper preparation and grounding at the start, followed by carefully paced reprocessing work, and space at the end to consolidate, reflect, and reconnect to a sense of safety and strength.
Each intensive is designed around the client’s individual needs. We begin with resourcing and regulation techniques—breathwork, movement, or visualisation practices that support emotional stability and nervous system balance. Clients might explore positive memories, anchor words, or body-based techniques to return to during and after the session. These become tools they can carry forward, not just during EMDR but in everyday life.
The reprocessing work itself is supported by a strong therapeutic relationship and guided by the client’s pace. We use EMDR to gently access and release stuck memories or body-held sensations, tracking what comes up in images, thoughts, emotions, or shifts in the body. Clients are never pushed beyond what feels tolerable. In fact, the spaciousness of an intensive often means we can move more slowly and with more support, which can lead to a deeper sense of completion and integration.
Intensives are often described as both intense and empowering—hard work, yes, but held in a way that feels safe, supported, and focused. Many clients finish with a clearer sense of themselves, more capacity to stay present in their lives, and a renewed feeling of strength. Whether it’s one session or a short series, EMDR intensives offer a powerful opportunity to move through what’s stuck and reconnect to what’s steady, grounded, and resilient within.
