SA&T is a title I have used for Social Art & Therapy projects I have been initiating outside of my own artwork since 2011, the first of which came to fruition in March 2012 with SA&T Beirut. On 15th May 2012 it went to London Borough of Sutton but integrated within the social services within an employed possition for three years. 15th May 2015 that role was completed and returning to the early aim SA&T is now being developed to it's own thing.
What that will be is still evolving.
June 15th 2015 SA&T was registered as a Ltd company, I'm continuing much in the way I have already been working as a sole trader at first, but am working with the idea that in the future it could be run by somebody else, or a small team. Possibly as a Community Interest Company.
Initially I was more interested in SA&T having a charitable status, but after being part of a huge organisation, it is refreshing to be able to concentrate on delivery of services and let things naturally evolve, without hefty systems in place. And though trustees would be valuable and cherished, it is also great to be light footed, and make decisions quickly with only myself, informal and paid advisors and supervisors, and the professional regulatory bodies.
Most likely October 1st, after 3 months of low profile trade on a personal basis, SA&T will have a launch party.
Until then, although therapists are often encouraged to be blank canvases, well, in this case I am happy to have some transparency and communication from the 'headquarters' in far South East London, and share the project development and musings with my professional peer group and other interested parties.
The therapeutic spaces are different, they are still personal, home and art studio based spaces, but during the therapy sessions it is all about the client, and what happens in the therapy sessions and related services is confidential and protected information.
I hope that SA&T can continue as it did in Beirut, and London Borough of Sutton, where I worked on close and confidential therapy with individuals and psychodynamic groups, but also did wider reaching projects in the community, partnering with charities, health and educational organisations, and other practitioners on projects that could be shared and celebrated.
For sure I will continue to write about SA&T findings, developments, excursions and escapades here and there.
But to blog or not to blog? Time will tell.
